Nadine and husband Danny from the eat- and beer pub
Kroegske are pleased to welcome you all to their website.

It all started as a hobby. As great Lambic and Gueuze, Trappist, Rodenbach and Liefmans lovers, and in the mean time also breweriana collectors, we wanted to share our passion with you.
On 1 August 1996, the first step was made, and the opening of our small eat- and beer house was a fact. It was given the appropriate name Kroegske.
The past years we did our upper best to put a piece of our soul in it.....and with success!
We already became well known as "the place to be"...
A discovery which went worldwide, and has become the place for the real beer lover and enjoyer. Our idealism has arised and grown through our experience, and this has lead to a unique eat- and beer temple in the heart of West-Flanders.

What can we offer ?

A cosy and quiet atmosphere, candle light and a unique interior full of breweriana. Accompanying music going from Middle-Ages, Folk, Celtic rock, all over the 60's, 70's from song writers to blues up to jazz. In summertime on the garden terrace you're surrounded with old enameled commercial beer pamphlets and in wintertime the old antique coal stove makes the coziness complete. Unique!

Our speciality consists of fresh prepared cuisine made by Nadine, who has obtained a certificate restaurant keeper.
Diverse fresh prepared snacks and beercuisine dishes are presented in a most beautiful beer bible, containing more than 400 different specialty beers to choose from. Those beers are carefully cathegorized per brew style, and this presented in an ancient Celtic style.

This huge and extensive choice of Specialty beers are mainly purchased at small artisanal breweries. The commercial beers are avoided as much as possible.

The beer range consists following brew styles:

The 6 Trappist beers fromBelgium.

The Acknowledged abbey beers.

The NON-Acknowledged abbey beers.

A beautiful selection Saison beers.

The mixed fermented beers like Oud Bruin.

Fruit beers sweet and sour.

Carefully chosen Regional beers.

And last but not least the spontaneous fermented Lambic beers, because they are ofcourse the parade-horse of our beer bible.

What do we expect from you?

In our Kroegske one can have a chat with two or with friends and acquaintances without disturbing other attendees.
Here with us everybody adapts to everyone. Our public do not at all like the unexpected.
Therefore loud noises are not tolerated in our business.

For having a good party this is the wrong address. We are more interested in what state you leave the pub than how much you spended.
Therefore the maximum of beers to drink is 5 per person. How low or high the alkoholpercentage may be.

Half hour before closing time, nothing is served or prepared anymore.

As there are enough child friendly establishments already, our Kroegske is not suited and adapted for babies and tots. Children are welcome only when they are supervised by their parents.

Prams and domestic animals are not allowed. The use of parfumed tabac in form of pipe and sigar are forbidden, this out of respect towards other people who want to enjoy their beer in maximum condition. This not only concerns inside but also outside the pub at the garden terrace.

Kroegske is since 1 January 2007 completely smoke free!

Everyone who can adapt those demands is more than welcome in our eat- and beer house!

The owners,

Nadine and Danny

This is wat English beer connaisseur Tim Webb writes about 't Kroegke in his new Good Beer Guide to Belgium guide:

"Emelgem, 6km ESE of Roeselare off N36

STATION Izegem [Lichtervelde – Kortrijk]

Village in the suburban hinterland. Officially Emelgem has not existed since it was made formally part of Izegem in 1963. However, nobody asked the locals or told the map-makers and road sign writers.

Hotel tips: in Izegem, the Park***, 3 Papestraat (T 051 33 78 20; F 051 33 78 69; www.parkhotel-izegem.be) is the brand new business hotel next to the old Carpentier maltings, while the Century**, 24 Nederweg (T 051 30 18 44; F 051 31 51 79) was equally modern forty years ago.

KROEGSKE

35 Vijfwegenstraat

T 051 30 77 63

The Guide suggests the two hotels above because although there is no point in coming here for anything other than this café, we suspect that once you have arrived you will not be wanting to leave. To find it from Izegem station head over the bridge. Vijfwegenstraat is off the roundabout. The anonymous street of terraced houses gives the clear message that you have to be in the wrong place but you are not. The main room of this small and cosy, immensely civilised brown café (see also World beating cafés) is hung with plants and candle-lit. It is wrapped round a neat bar that stocks 450 beers from all over Belgium and beyond. There are cellar-aged beers too. The shortish menu features traditional cooking, much of it involving beer. There is a small garden at the back in summer. Cigars, pipes, dogs, babies, Pilsener and wheat beer are not allowed. The limited opening hours reflect the fact that the owners consider this their hobby. Open on public holidays when they’re coming at the days we’re open.."
